The Great Horror Family is a 2004 Japanese horror comedy television series directed by Kenji Murakami, Takashi Shimizu, Keisuke Toyoshima and Yūdai Yamaguchi, which aired on TV Tokyo affiliated stations.

Episode 1 - The Horror! The Cursed Imawano Family
Release Date: 2004-10-03The Imawano family move into their new home and soon discover that it's no ordinary house. The whole family start to see and hear strange things, especially Kiyoshi. What is behind the door that won't open? Why is Kiyoshi the only one who can see ghosts and can he really save the family from the crisis that his dead Grandfather has warned him about?

Episode 2 - The Horror! The World Osamu Doesn't Know About
Release Date: 2004-10-10Kiyoshi is coming to terms with his new psychic abilities and seems to have a new room-mate, the ghost Asami. The rest of the family discuss their various spooky encounters but conclude that there's nothing supernatural going on. Meanwhile Osamu, who has no psychic abilities whatsoever, comes up with a plan to persuade the rest of the skeptical family that the house really is haunted. The house has also attracted a wandering priest who tries desperately to warn the occupants of their dire situation.

Episode 3 - Horrifying! Kiwa's Tea Drinking Friend
Release Date: 2004-10-17When Kaoruko (an old friend of Grandmother Kiwa) comes to visit, Kiyoshi immediately suspects that she's far from being the frail old lady she appears to be. With the rest of the family already under the old hag's spell, can Kiyoshi, with the help of an apparition detector and his temporarily disembodied father, save them all?

Episode 5 - The Horror! The Alien You Prefer
Release Date: 2004-10-31Fed up of being mocked by the rest of his family because he can't see ghosts, Osamu decides he'll impress them by summoning a UFO. However, when his plan actually works and a UFO does appear, he keeps it a secret and starts behaving very oddly indeed. Why is Osamu working late all the time now? Why does he have lots of new female friends and why are the 'men in black' so interested in him?

Episode 6 - Ghost Story! Red Light Spirit Tsuyako
Release Date: 2004-11-07The ghost of a prostitute, Tsuyako, has been murdering male virgins! Kyoshi's Grandfather, Fuchio, who seems to know something of this woman's past, manages to stop her from making Kiyoshi her next victim. Kyoshi and Fuchio must now find her again and help the troubled spirit to find peace, as Fuchio believes he's the cause of all her torment.

Episode 7 - Grotesque! The Cursed Gothic Lolita
Release Date: 2004-11-14Kyoko is troubled by repeated dreams of a girl dressed in black calling her a traitor. She's even more troubled when the same girl joins her class at school! The girl, Satsuko, clearly has a deep grudge against her, but Kyoko has no idea why. When Satsuko finally explains herself, Kyoko must confront frightening memories that she blocked out long ago.

Episode 8 - True Story! Afterlife of Honor
Release Date: 2004-11-21Fed up with life in a haunted house (and finding ghost hair on his bedroom floor), Kyoshi decides to run away from home. After being beaten up and mistaken for a corpse, he ends up working as a bus boy in a very unusual hostess bar where clients are entertained by the undead. However, not everyone approves of such a place and Kyoshi once again finds himself in trouble.

Episode 9 - Escape! The Imawano Family and the Cursed Maze
Release Date: 2004-11-28Inspired by a TV show they saw, the family have a light-hearted discussion about remodelling the house. When a ghostly engineer arrives the following morning to survey the house, the house becomes a bizarre maze of rooms that seem impossible to escape from.

Episode 10 - The Horror! Kiyoshi's Cursed Countdown
Release Date: 2004-12-05The Men in Black, with the help of Osamu, continue to investigate spatial anomolies. Meanwhile, Kiyoshi starts to see visions telling him that he will die in 4 days! Fortunately help arrives in the form of the priest Kyuujuurou, younger brother of Hachikuro. He tells Kiyoshi that the explanation for all the recent strange phenomena can be found in ancient scriptures stored in the mysterious 'room that will not open'.

Episode 11 - Extreme! Kiyoshi's Family and the World Over There
Release Date: 2004-12-12Powerless to prevent his foretold death, Kiyoshi finds himself on the bank of the Sanzu river with fellow ghosts Asami and Hachikuro. Asami is delighted that she and Kiyoshi can now cross the river into the afterlife together but Kiyoshi has other plans. He's determined to defeat the river and somehow return to the land of the living to save his family.

Episode 12 - Bizarre! ...the original Great Family
Release Date: 2004-12-19When Kiyoshi's idea to walk up-stream doesn't quite go as planned, he washes ashore 300 years in the past and meets a family that seem very familiar to him. The fraudulant exorcist, Oyuu, may be able to help Kiyoshi, but first he must put right a terrible wrong that could have implications for the future generations of the Imawano family.

Release Date: 2004-12-26The Men in Black, the priests, the Imawano family and assorted spirits, aliens and demons all assemble in the 'room that will not open' (now opened) to witness the fulfillment of the prophecy as written in the ancient scriptures.
