Trading Spaces (2000)
Trading Spaces was an hour-long American television reality program that aired from 2000 to 2008 on the cable channels TLC and Discovery Home. The format of the show was based on the BBC TV series Changing Rooms. The show ran for eight seasons.

Episode 1 - Maine: Joseph Drive
Release Date: 2002-08-24It's swinging singles time on Trading Spaces! Designer Laurie Hickson-Smith works with single-guy Ed to redo his neighbor's master bedroom. Meantime, single gal Laurie fixes up Ed's master bedroom with the design help of Frank Bielec. Ty Pennington works in both rooms, making a big armoire for Laurie and a manly dresser for Frank. Episode 2 - Berkeley: Prospect Street
Release Date: 2002-08-31Designers Doug Wilson and Genevieve Gorder and carpenter Ty Pennington are on hand to help as the Delta Upsilon fraternity trades rooms with the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. After assessing each other's digs (while the girls find the boys' place gross, the frat boys deem the female abode unwelcoming), the remodeling begins with the standard rules: two days, a $1000 budget and no peeking. The results are as extraordinary as the measures taken, which include throwing everything in the frat room out the window and lighting a bonfire of discarded stuff at the sorority house.

Designer Genevieve Gorder is en fuego as she transforms a master bedroom into a big cigar box. Just around a city corner, Edward Walker does a faux finish on the fireplace in his trademark elegant style. There's nothing elegant about Ty Pennington's work space crammed into a parking lot! Still, he manages a symmetrical entertainment center for Edward and lucite-topped side tables for Gen.

Doug Wilson uses one of his famous plaster techniques to create suede walls for a rustic cabin feel in the living room. Carpenter Amy Wynn gets in the spirit by attaching tree bark to the outside of an entertainment center, and building a garden arbor swing for Kia's bedroom. Designers Hilda Santo Tomas and Genevieve Gorder take their decorating designs to London, England, where they'll seek the help of Britain's most famous carpenter, Handy Andy. Andy's got his hands full on this show, building a wall of closet doors for Hildi's child bedroom, and a box of drawers for under the bed in Gen's master bedroom. We don't get much help from the weather — 90 mile per hour gusts of wind knock over our work tent and threaten to send us into overtime. Release Date: 2002-12-07There are three designers on this episode — Kia, Edward, and Noelle! Noelle is one of our homeowners and she's also an interior decorator. Watch Edward Walker try to convince her to create a fake window and float the bed in the center of a master bedroom. Kia's got her hands full with a different problem — trying to recreate one of the wonders of the world, while making sure it doesn't leak all over the master bedroom. Amy Wynn tries to take some of the burden, building a television cabinet out of spare parts for Edward and, of course, struggling with that wonder of the world order from Kia. There could be a flood of emotions on this episode.

Release Date: 2002-12-14Love is in the air as Trading Spaces tries to sex up some bedrooms for two newly-engaged couples. Designers Vern Yip and Genevieve Gorder both turn to leather to help make the transformation. Gen weaves leather into a tall headboard for her master bedroom; while Vern attaches leather panels to the wall to make the headboard in his room. Ty Pennington isn't feeling much love as he races to complete a double armoire/desk for Vern, and to hang — and re-hang — Gen's headboard. Release Date: 2002-12-21The U.S. Military has never seen an operation like Trading Spaces! Designers Doug Wilson and Kia Steave-Dickerson travel to Scott Air Force Base to undertake a search and design mission. Doug's keeping it all in the family as he tries to transform a real automobile into a bed and toy chest for a boy's bedroom. Meanwhile, Kia parachutes in to her living/dining room, bringing a touch of camouflage down with her. Over at Andy's house, Vern Yip was having no such problem as he, Sara and her husband laid down tile floor in Andy's kitchen. Release Date: 2003-04-13We pulled in some youthful star power for this episode of Trading Spaces. The four young stars of 7th Heaven agreed to trade their set for ours, and offered up their homes for redecoration. Hildi Santo Tomas, Beverley Mitchell and Jessica Biel spent the weekend transforming the living room of brothers George and Geoff Stults. But we think they spent more time cleaning than anything else! Meanwhile, Edward Walker and the guys redesigned Beverley's game room/den.
