Looking Back in Anger (1989)
Looking Back in Anger was a 1989 Hong Kong TV series and one of the most watched TVB series by Chinese people in Hong Kong and around the world. Many factors contributed to the success of this series. As well as its tragic but memorable storyline, this series featured a strong cast, with Felix Wong, Deric Wan, Carina Lau, Kathy Chow Hoi-Mei and Maggie Shiu. The popular theme song of the series "Yat sang ho kau" was sung by Danny Chan and later by Deric Wan himself.

Episode 1 - Episode 1
Release Date: 1989-04-03Back in the early 1960's, Fung Wing-Cheung could never hold onto one job in spite of his family responsibilities. He dreamt of becoming rich one day, and took to gambling, which resulted in losing all he had. On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Wing-Cheung did not earn enough red pocket money, and promised his wife Yin Fong to borrow some from relatives, however, unable to restrain himself, he did not return from the casino. Unwilling to let her son Kin go hungry, Yin Fong picked pockets on the streets, but was detained by the police for alleged involvement in a murder case. Since she was pregnant, Yin Fong found it ever harder to endure the interrogations. Although the court has arranged for Chu Siu Shan, an experienced barrister to represent Yin Fong, the prejury given by witness Szeto Chun put Yin Fong in a disadvantageous position……

Episode 2 - Episode 2
Release Date: 1989-04-04Desperate, Yim Fong had nothing to put her hope on except her unborn baby. She gave birth to Hong, a son and had to send it to Wing-Cheung, which saddened her. Siu Shan believed that Yin Fong was innocent, and tried to trap Szeto Chun into amending his statement. Sai Bond mistook Siu Shan for distorting justice, and refused to give him the chance to repeal. Wing-Cheung brought Kin and Hong to visit Yin Fong, and confessed that he was sorry. Knowing that it's too late, Yin Fong asked him to take care of the two sons. On the final day of Yin Fong, Siu Shan received news that the real culprit was dying and brought along a justice of peace to press for his statements. He notified the attorney general to stop the execution. Yin Fong thought she would be saved; however, Sai Bond thought Szeto Chun was giving perjury, and made up other evidence against Yin Fong.

Episode 3 - Episode 3
Release Date: 1989-04-05Siu Shan has become a witness, and hires Yau Kwok-Chung, another queen s counsel to represent Yin Pong. However, the later is drawn into domestic entangles and cannot concentrate which leads to Siu Shan losing confidence in him. Kwok-Chung is mediocre in court, and is rebuked by Sai Bond. He loses the case and the sentence is uncharged. Both Wing-Cheung and Siu Shan are very disappointed. On his visit with his two sons to the prison, Wing-Cheung found that Yin Fong is already severely disturbed, and does not recognise them anymore. Wing—Cheung is very sad. Wing-Cheung cannot manage to face Yim Fong’s death, and has a mental breakdown. He tries to commit suicide with Kin, but is stopped by the police. He is subsequently sent to the asylum. A businessman Lee Ho-Chuen sympathizes with Kin and Hong, and adopts them as foster children. Ho-Chuen is married to San Han for many years and does not have a child……

Episode 4 - Episode 4
Release Date: 1989-04-06For 20 years, ?an Han works in a hospital, but manages to raise all her children. Because Kin is the oldest, he quits school to help the family but puts his hopes on the brothers and sister. Siu Ling fails in her university entrance examinations and decides not to try again. She starts to work for a bank to help alleviate the financial burden of Kin. Kin feels that the family's finance is improving, and decides to buy a flat with the "Home Ownership Scheme". Being the last to learn of it, San Wan thinks that Kin has no regards for her views by not consulting her and is displeased. Nonetheless, having learnt the truth and that the family has organized a birthday party for her, she is happy again. Hong passes the examinations and is admitted to the Law Faculty at the university. Sau Wan is pleased as well as worried, as Kin has to bear a heavier load than before.

Episode 5 - Episode 5
Release Date: 1989-04-07Siu Ling and others pool together some money to buy an air conditioner for the new flat in order to please Sau Wan, who, however, charges them of being spendthrift, but finally gets to understand their care for herself. Lee Lap, Ho-Chuen’s brother, has failed in his business and cannot his daughter, Lee Wah, who is coming to Hong Kong to attend university. He asks Sau Han for help. Sau Wan promises to help Lee Nah, despite what has happened before. Being shy and gentle, and knowing of how her father has treated Sau Wan in the past, Lee Wah does not feel at ease, and always makes a fool of herself in front of Kin. Lee Hah has taken to Hons and always tries to get close with him. Hong does not feel anything in particular for her, but summons her to do small chore for him. At the university, Hong feels inferior because of his family background, and tries to convince others of his superiority, to the jeers and sneers of his peers……

Episode 6 - Episode 6
Release Date: 1989-04-10Robbed on the street, Lee Nah breaks her glasses. Her father does not send her allowance in time, she is thus penniless. Having gone without lunch, she passes out on the streets. Kin sees her and takes her to a clinic. Kin sends Hong to order a new pair of glasses for Lee Hah. Lee Nah is pleased that Hong is so considerate. Hong hears of some insider information from Yiu Ming, and places his scholarship on a stock. He wins and is won over by Sai Bond's capabilities. Ho Yat Fu, Kin’s best friend, has always been fond of Siu Ling, but does not express it because he has achieved nothing so far. Yat Fu works for a TV station, and asks Kin to help in a show which focuses on three different people who were born on the same day. In discovers that he has the same birthday as Ngai Cho-Kwan, who comes from a well-to-do family, and a famous fashion designer, and feels inferior……

Release Date: 1989-04-11Fear to offend Fung, Hong runs after him to apologize. In order to achieve his ambitions, Hong tries to maintain a good re1ationship with Fung who has caused his mother's death. Kin feels very disappointed and the two brothers fall into heated argument. To revenge, Yiu Ming forces the boss of the university canteen to terminate Kin’s employment. Kin therefore works day and night as driver to support the family. As he continues his work in the television show, Kin has the chance to know Cho-Kwan better. He finds that despite her coming from a wealthy family, Cho-Kwan is easy-going and generous. She's never snobbish and they could talk frankly to each other. They become close friends. Cho-Kwan lost her mother at a very young age. Her father has been using all means to groom her daughter and secure her position in the upper class. Being subjective and authoritative in nature……

Release Date: 1989-04-12Hong feels being misunderstood by his family and decides to leave home and stay with his friend in the hostel. Sau Wan feels depressed. Lee Wah works part-time as tourist guide and comes across Kin who is appointed as driver at the same travel agency. They have much more chance to see each other. Hong has been neglecting his study as he is spending time on his investment. He fails in the test and asks the professor to give him another chance. He is required to hand in a paper in substitute for another test, and he asks Lee Nah to help him with the research work. Since he can't stay with his friend in the hostel any longer, Hons has to ask Kin’s pardon and move back to stay with the family. After spending time together, Kin develops a liking for Lee Wah. When he finds out that Lee Nah has been loving Hong, he is very depressed……

Release Date: 1989-04-13In the Ngai’s annual reception, Fung suddenly announces that he and his son are going to leave Ngai's and set up their own company. Kai Mei Group. He also reveals the plan that Kai Mei will acquire Ngai's. Ngai-Kwai is infuriated. With his father's arrangement, Cho-Kwan is introduced to Wong Kwok-Gay who is keen to woo her. She is surprised when Kwok-Gay tries every means to please her. Most of the Ngai’s staff join Kai—Mei for the attractive salary offered. Ngai-Kwai has difficulty in meeting the challenge. He immediately calls back Chun-Kit, his son from his second wife. Chun-Kit has to quit his study and come back to help his father with the business. Kin is very unhappy when he finds out that Hang has been treating Lee Wah as a maid. They fall into argument which causes an accident in which both are injured. They fall off the hill and nobody could hear their cry for help……

Release Date: 1989-04-14Being not fully recovered from the wound. Hong feels very painful when he takes part in the inter-departmental swimming competition. Wai Kong’s diagnosis shows that Hong will not be able to recover fully. Hong is terribly shocked by the news. During his stay in the hospital, Hong is attracted by Ka Man and he eagerly courts her. However, Ka Man has known Kai Kong since childhood. From close friends, they develop to lovers. Ka Man therefore disregards Hong’s wooing. To make Hong feel better, Kin arranges Lee Nah to go to concert with him. Hong is very disappointed when he sees Ka Man and Wai Kong are on very intimate terms. Lee Nah feels sad when Hong behaves awkward out of disappointment. Cho-Kwan gives in to Kwok-Gay's enthusiastic courting and though she doesn't love him, she agrees to engage with him. On the eve of their engagement, she thinks about it seriously and regrets her decision……

Release Date: 1989-04-17Encouraged by Kin, Cho-Kwan asks Kwok-Gay's pardon for letting him down. However, Kwok-Gay is furious and embarrasses her in the public. Ngai-Kwai rebukes Cho-Kwan's irresponsible action. With grievances and anger. Cho-Kwan runs away from home. Hons finds every opportunity to open up an intimate relationship with Ku-Man. Wai-Kong. However, is Ka-Man’s boyfriend and Hon: has to hide his feeling. While looking forward to an independent life after leaving home. Cho-Kwan misses the extravagance life she has been leading and feels very depressed. With the support of Kin, she is able in calm herself down. Being hospitalized for a few months. Hong’s study is failing behind and he fails in the final examination. He gives vent to his grievances by blaming Kin for the consequences. Hong works hart-time in Fung’s Kai Mei Group instead of spending time on his study during the summer vacation. Kin disagrees strongly with Hong on the issue.

Episode 12 - Episode 12
Release Date: 1989-04-18Ka-Man and Hong are in very good terms when they spend more time together. Ka-Man listens to Hong’s grievances and she tries to pacify him. During an outing organized by Hong and his fellow students, Hong shows his liking for Ka-Man in front of Wai-Kong. Out of jealousy. Wai-Kong privately warns Hons to stop his “wrong as Ka-Man is his girlfriend. However, Hong pays no attention to him. Helped by Kin, Cho-Kwan slowly takes up a more positive view towards life and decides to open a boutique with her friends. Hons asks Lee Nah to be his partner in the Ka Mei Group annual ball in the last minute. Lee Wah is very excited and starts to learn the dance steps. However, she twists her ankle and can’t go to the ball. Hone then asks Lee Wah to invite Ka-Man to take her place which greatly disappoints Lee Wah.

Episode 13 - Episode 13
Release Date: 1989-04-19Hong and Ka-Man become closer after several dating. Hong even pursues further when Wai-Kong leaves Hang Kong on business. Lee Wah is heart broken when Hon: refuses to so to the movie with her. Hong even goes further by going with Ka-Man using the tickets bought by Lee Wah. Trying to help Kin, Cho-Kwan hints to Lee Wah about Kin’s love for her. This brings about counter effect and Lee Nah feels embarrassed. When Kin knows what Cho-Kwan has done, he is furious with her. Though very concern about Cho-Kwan. Ngai-Kwai won't ask her to return home due to self-respect. Chun-Kit understands his father and asks Cho-Kwan to come back. Cho-Kwan refuses by saying that she is determined to succeed in her career before going home. Hong is not happy with his superior who doesn't take any notice of all his effort. Making use of an opportunity, he voices out his opinion to Fung who gratefully accepts his recommendation. Hong feels flattered.

Release Date: 1989-04-20Cho-Kwan falls in her business and loses a great sum of money. Finding no other ways, she turns to her father for help who instead. teaches her a lesson. Terribly hurt, she leaves with tear. Again with encouragement from Kin. Cho-Kwan turns over n new leaf. She changes her past playful attitude and begins to look for a new job. Wai-Kong returns from business. He suspects that Ka-Man and Hong are having an affair and in probing her. he infuriates Ka-Man. Cho-Kwan finds a job in a publication house. She can't get rid of her rich girl's temperament at first but with Kin’s help, she is able to discard most of her bad habit and work hard for the future. Lee Wah finally recognizes Honq has no love for her. She is very disappointed and decides to leave Sau-Wan’s place. Kin feels and about her leaving. Wai-Kong tries to stop Ka-Man from seeing Hong……

Release Date: 1989-04-21Sau-Wan doesn't want Siu-Ling to enter into entertainment business. Siu-Ling secretly asks Yat-Fu to arrange an audition for her. She passes the test and implores Sau-Wan to allow her to study in the actor training course. Seeing that she is determined, Sau-Wan agrees to let her try.' Hong is setting sore satisfaction from work than study. He decides to quit his study and concentrates on his work in Ka Mei Group. Just before Lee Nah moves out, she falls sick and is taken care of by Kin. Kin’s sincerity and kindness moves Lee Wah and she conflicts about leaving. Yat-Fu is not happy with his work at TV station and plans to apply for a job in the Correctional Department. Realizing that Hong is taking care of the family finance. Kin decides to follow Yat-Fu hoping to establish his own career. After going through things together for a time, Cho-Kwan starts to have ' a liking for Kin……

Episode 16 - Episode 16
Release Date: 1989-04-24Though she can't forget Hong. Lee Hah is able to control herself and concentrates on her study after leaving Sau-Wan's place. Wai-Kong cannot withstand Ka-Man's ambiguity and pushes her to marry him. Ka-Man thinks Wai-Kong unreasonable and rejects his proposal. Wai-Kong is shocked by Ka-Man’s reaction and falls to a nervous ~ breakdown during a surgery operated by him. He is dismissed from his position in the hospital and he finally leaves Hong Kong with his family. With Kin’s support and encouragement, Cho-Kwan works hard for the job. Her ability is finally recognizes by her boss and she becomes much more confident of herself. Ka-Man feels sorry about Wai-Kong and becomes very depressed. Hong helps her to recover from her sadness. Both Kin and Yat-Fu succeed in entering the Correctional Department. Despite of the harse training, they are determined to surmount all hardship and complete the training.

Release Date: 1989-04-25Knowing that Ka-Man is lonely and depressed. Hong actively courts her. He is even able to move her and make her to accept him.' Kin is not as young as his fellow colleagues. He is less vigorous and worries that he may fall in the training. He works extremely hard and his determination impresses Yat-Fu. Despite of three days holiday, Kin Stays in the school to work and rejects Ka-Man's date making her very disappointed. Kin passes the physical test narrowly and with the support from his fellow colleagues, he is also able to pass the mid-term test. Cho-Kwan plans to spend her birthday with Kin hoping to have a chance to express her love for him. However, Kin has promised to go to Macau with his colleagues. Cho-Kwan follows them to Macau in the hope of giving Kin a surprise. Kin accidentally comes across Lee Hah in Macau and they have a nice time together……

Release Date: 1989-04-26Hong helps Yiu-Kwok to clear himself of a scandal in Fung's presence. Yiu-Kwok is impressed by his loyalty. Seeing that Kin finally faces up to his love for Lee Wah who now gratefully accepts, Sau-Wan feels consoled and she asks the pair to treasure their love for each other. Kin brings Lee Wah to visit Cho-Kwan. Cho-Kwan feels sad to see the two are having an intimate relationship. Though feeling painful about losing Kin, Cho-Ewan ls able to put up a happy face.

Release Date: 1989-04-27Ngai-Kwai is shocked and falls ill when he hears that Fung succeeds in buying the controlling shares of his company. Cho-Kwan _returns home to look after him on hearing the news. The father and daughter for once understand each other and forget about the unhappy past. Chun-Kit suggests selling some of the Neal's properties in order to rescue the business from bankruptcy. Ngai-Kwai strongly disagrees as he thinks the action will affect the company's image. Chun-Kit has to think of other solutions. Chun-Kit discovers that Yiu-Kwok has been involved in illegal transactions and with proof on his hands. he demands Fang to stop buying shares of Ngai's company. Afraid of being charged. Yiu-Kwok implores Fung to call off his acquisition move. Fung insists on his plan, when Fun: finds out that his son is selling off Ngai’s shares and destroying his plan, he becomes furious. Kin graduates with an honors……

Release Date: 1989-04-28Yiu-Kwok asks Chun-Kit to meet him in a carpark ln order to retrieve the evidence of his illegal activities. Unable to control his anger, he beats Chun-Kit up. When Hong tries to stop him and force him to leave. Hong accidentally crashes his car on Chun-Kit. It's already too late when someone passes by discovers Chun-Kit's body and sends him to the hospital. Shocked and grieved by the death of his son. Ngai-Kwai swears to find the murderer. Before leaving to hide himself. Hong is able to trick Kin to answer the crime for his. Out of love for his brother and thinking that it's a straight-forward case of traffic accident, Kin promises to stand in Hong's place. Cho-Kwan grieves on his brother's death. Though she understands that she should not blame Kin for the accident. the incident hurts their relationship seriously. Kin discovers that the case involves feud between the two parties and the police has classified it a manslaughter case……

Release Date: 1989-05-01Cho-Kwan notices something unusual about Yiu-Kwok when he attends her brother's funeral. Suspecting more complications about Chun-Kit's death, she insists to have an answer from Kin. When she finds out that Kin is answering the crime for his brother, she tries to convince Kin to tell the truth in court. Despite of Hong using his family's financial difficulties to persuade Kin to continue he freud, Kin is determined to hack out. Seeing the adverse situation, Hons runs away irresponsibly. Kin doesn't want to damage Hong's future. He accepts the charge and is sentenced to two years imprisonment. Knowing that Kin is innocent. Cho-Kwan asks her father to pardon Kin. The father and daughter ill feeling revives when Ngai-Kwai thinks that his daughter speaks good of Kin only because she loves him and isn’t concern about her brother's death. Because of his righteousness. Kin arouses the enemata feeling from Kim Shui in the prison……

Episode 22 - Episode 22
Release Date: 1989-05-02Though promoted in various occasions in the company, Hong is very ambitious and looks forward to a golden opportunity to become one of the richest man in Hong Kong. Kin saves Kim Shui’s life in one of the accident in the prison which opens up the friendship between the two. Ngai-Kwai is not able to recover from the shock of his son's death. He resorts to alcohol and drinks heavily. He falls sick and is hospitalized. Ngai-Kwai gives vent to his hate by arranging people in the prison to beat Kin up. Fortunately, Kim Shui cones across and stop the fight preventing Kin from serious injury. Surprised by her father's action, Cho-Kwan reveals the true story to Ngai-Kwai. She begins to collect evidence against Funs and Yiu-Kwok in order to avenge her brother's death. Kin sets acquainted with Pens Choi and others who are sent to prison for committing commercial crimes. They open their heart to each other and become close friends……

Release Date: 1989-05-03Involved in a corruption case happened long ago. Ngai-Kwai is charged by ICAC and sent to prison for two years. Siu-Ling is busy with her work at TV station and always returns home late. Thinking that she can't withstand all the materials temptation. Sau-Wan expresses her disapproval. With sympathy. Yat-Fu explains to San-Wan about Siu-Ling's situation. Sau-Wan recognises herself being over sensitive and decides to attend Siu-Ling’s graduation from the actors training course. Siu-Ling is overcome with gratitude. Worried that Sin-Ling may follow her mother's foot step and ends up disastrously in the entertainment business. Sau-Wan decides to tell Siu-Line everything about her mother. Fong-Hung was a superstar during the 50’s and 60's. Just when her career was going uphill. She found herself pregnant. She secretly gave birth to Siu-Ling and save her away to Sau-Wan. She was married to a wealthy businessman and later emigrated overseas……

Episode 24 - Episode 24
Release Date: 1989-05-04At first. Siu-Ling can't accept Fong-Hung’s selfish behavior in the past and avoids seeing her. Later, she begins to understand her miserable life and agrees to continue their mother and daughter relationship privately. Not willing to withstand Ngai-Kwai’s arrogance, Kin Shui and others in the prison try to bully him. Kin comes to rescue and stop them from humiliating him. Though he knows that Kin is not the one who kills his son, Ngai-Kwan has a bad impression of Kin. However, he appreciates Kin’s kindness and consideration towards him during his days in the prison and friendship strikes between the two. In order to consolidate his position in Kai Mei Group and knowing that Yiu-Kwok has a liking for Siu-Ling, Hong introduces Siu-Ling to Yin-Kwok. Siu-Ling agrees to Hong's arrangement with pleasure as she thinks that it would help to promote herself.

Release Date: 1989-05-05Trying to help Fong-Hung to settle loans from the big shark, Sin-Line turns to Bong for help. Hong persuades Siu-Linq to be mistress of Yiu-Kwok. Finding no other alternatives. Siu-Ling agrees. Sau-Wan is furious when she knows that Siu-Ling becomes Yiu-Kwok’s mistress for money. Despite Fong-Hung's explanation for Siu-Ling. Sau-Wan stay’s with her principle and disapproves Sin-Line's notion. Trying to pacify Sau-Wan. Hons gives Sau-Wan a large sum of money which San-Wan refuses to accept. Losing his girlfriend. Pens Chai resorts to suicide. Only with Kin's encouragement is he able to stand up and face the reality. Chi-Man graduates from school. Not particularly talented, he isn't doing well with his career. Sau-Wan strongly disagrees when Hons arranges Chi-Man to work at Kai Mei. When Chi-Man sees the advertisement put out by his parents that they have been looking for him, he tries to contact them……

Episode 26 - Episode 26
Release Date: 1989-05-08Sau-Wan has always objected to Hon and Chi-Man working for Fung who is responsible for the death of Hong's mother. After a fight, Hong drags Chi-Man with him and leaves Sau-Wan. Coming out of the prison, Kin finds that Hong has virtually broken up the family and he feels very sad. San-Han has been refusing to accept money from Hons and continues to do heavy labour work after resigning from her work in the hospital. Kin therefore decides to work hard lol find a job and take care of Sau-Wan himself. Ka-Man plans to go with her mother to Malaysia to join her father. She asks Hong to go with her. Seeing that he is just beginning to climb the ladder of Kai Mei, Hong wouldn't give up his effort. Ka-Man therefore has to change her plan and stay behind. Seeing Kin is working very hard for a living. Hong offers him a senior position which Kin refuses to accept. Cho-Kwan's feeling towards Kin is very conflicting when she sees him again……

Release Date: 1989-05-09Yiu-Kwok is very angry when he meets: Kin working as waiter. He orders Hong to tell the management to dismiss Kin. Hard feeling between the brothers deepened. Ngai-Kwai feels very pleased when he finds Cho—Kwan; much more mature and calm. Despite of all his effort and though he is trusted by Fung Hong is however someone outside the family. Hong therefore tries to court. Mei-Yan hoping to relate himself to the family. Hong is working hard to woo Mei-Yan and has been neglecting Ka-Man. Ka-Man's grievances irritates Kong very much. Lee Wah doesn't want to separate her father from her mother who is in Macau. She promises to rent an apartment so that her mother could come over to stay with them. However, the arrangement adds to the financial burden shared by Kin and her. As Ka Man discovers he has been dating Mei-Yan, Hon; suggests to Ka Man to break up with her……

Release Date: 1989-05-10Ka-Man forces Hong to marry her by saying that she'll tell Mei-Yan about their relationship. While thinking a way to resolve the matter. Hong agrees to the marriage and promises to so to Malaysia with Ka-Man to visit her family. Hong tries to back out from the marriage on arriving Malaysia. Ka-Man wouldn't let his go. Hong reluctantly asks the permission to marry Ka-Man from her parents who is very pleased with the proposal. Kin learns from Kin Shui that there's s food stall on sake. He would very much like to start the business but he hasn't got enough money. Cho-Kwan secretly helps him so that he could open the food stall. Ka-Man finds out that Hon: has been keeping his relationship with Mei-Yan and she demands Hong to announce their marriage to Mei-Yan. After warning from Ka-Man's uncle, Hong is afraid to mention about separating from Ka-Man again. Ka-Man is terribly hurt and resorts to suicide……

Release Date: 1989-05-11To break himself from Ka-Man, he contrives to make Ka-Man write her will and kills her. He designs so that the whole incident appears as Ka-Man committing suicide and therefore she is responsible for her own death. Sau-Wan is shocked by the news.' Just before she dies, Ka-Man called Sau-Wan to share the happy news of her marriage. Sau-Wan secretly suspects whether Ka-Han would kill herself. Hong learns that Kin is bringing Ka Man’s will with him and since he hasn't got the chance to take it from Kin, he is very worried.

Cho-Kwan and others are able to understand his feeling. Mei Yan becomes very suspicious about Hong’s intent as she knows about the relationship between him and Ks Man and that Hong has been investigated for being involved with Sau Han‘s death. Seeing the potential of the hot-pot business, Wah Lung sells his share to another company and insists to use the name of "Kwan-Kin" for his new company. Kin hasn't got the heart to fight and gives way to his trick. Hong is ordered to appear in court. But without strong evidence, he doesn't need to go to Malaysia to answer his crime. Chi Man is angry about what Hong has done and decides to resign from Kai Mei. He accidentally wounds Hong with a letter opener during a fight between them.

At Yiu Ming’s office, Yau Hong tries again to convince Mei Yan. Failing that, he blames what has happened on Mei Yan. At “Sun Kwan Kin”, Ngai Kwa finds that both Cho Kwan and Kin are very dedicated to the business, and is very pleased. Ngai Kwa finds that Wai Lung did not manage "Kwan Kin" well after taking over, and business is poor. He immediately terminates his guarantor relationship with Kwan Kin, which throws Wai Lung into economic hardship. Wai Lung decides to sell at a low price to Kin, who agrees despite what Wai Lung has done to him……

Release Date: 1989-05-30Hong extorts a huge sum from the Fungs after Mei Yan delivers, which kills the last hope she has for him. Mei Yan becomes an alcoholic again, which greatly hurts Sai Bond. He decides to help Mei Yan win back the rights to bring up the child through legal recourse. Hong makes use of Kai Mei’s name in order to cheat. Sai Bond cuts him out by renouncing his relationship with Hong in the press, which infuriates Hong. Hong decides to avenge. One night, Mei Yan is drunk. While fetching some water for her baby, she skids and falls with her baby down the staircase, and the baby is injured. A private detective hired by Hong happens to be there and takes photos of the incident. Hong uses these to blackmail Yan again, which is a further blow to Mei Yan, whose health suffers as a result. Unwilling to be taken by the nose by Hong, Sai Bond arranges to beat Hong up. Hong is furious, and blackmails Mel Yan again……

Release Date: 1989-05-31Kin feels that he is now capable of supporting a family financially, and proposes to marry Cho Kwan. Ngai Kwai agrees happily. Kin does not see Lee Wah off and feels rather unsettled. He feels more so when he learns that her plane crashes. Kin finds out that Lee Wah has been sent to the emergency section of a local hospital, and is still alive. He hurries over to visit Lee Wah, which makes Cho Kwan envious. On the way, Kin receives from the airline a letter from Lee Wah written before the crash, which expresses her fondness for Kin. Kin is saddened. On arriving at the hospital at Kuala Lumpur, Kin discovers that Lee Wah has had a severe shock, and is in a coma. Kin whispers recounts of their times together in her ears in an effort to make her regain consciousness. ln order to raise capital for a restaurant which Hong has shares in, he sells a big portion of Kai Mei’s shares, which upsets the unit share price. Sai Bond is infuriated……

Release Date: 1989-06-01Chung Chen tries to keep Hong out by reaching an agreement with Hong‘s partners for the management of the restaurant, which infuriates Hong, and deepens his hatred for Kin. The doctor’s diagnoses that Lee Wah needs an operation, which she refuses as she has nothing to look forward to in life. Kin nurses her back to a more positive attitude. In order to attend to Lee Wah, Kin has neglected Cho Kwan. Though displeased, Cho Kwan does not reveal her feelings to Kin. Hong invests all he has in the stock market, which collapses in the global crash in 1987. Having lost all he has, Hong collaborates with Hing to kidnap his own son, and demands a ransom. Sai Bond unwillingly agrees to pay a ransom after dyeing them. Hong and Hing gel hold of the ransom, but bump into the police when they are leaving. Hong escapes.

Release Date: 1989-06-02Arrested by the police, Hing confesses that Hong is the main culprit. The police put Hong on a wanted list. Discharged from the hospital, Lee Wah is sent to Fong Hung’s place by Kin to be taken care of by a private nurse. Feeling lonely, Lee Wah still depends entirely emotionally on Kin, which throws him into a dilemma. A fugitive, Hong hides in a hostel, and bumps into Biu. Hong makes use of Biu to help him escape from Hong Kong. Broke, Hong tries to blackmail Siu Ling at Fong l-lung's place, and takes her son as a hostage. Kin arrives, and a fight ensues. Eventually, Hong escapes by taking Lee Wah as a hostage.

Release Date: 1989-06-05In order to save Lee Wah, Kin pursues Hong. Amidst the confusion, Hong falls into the escalator, but manages to catch Kin’s arms. Knowing how slimy Hong is, Kin let him fall. Hong is seriously injured and is admitted into the hospital. Kin visits l-long in the detention center, and is regretful. He is saddened as Hong has nothing but hatred for him. Injured, Lee Wah feels even more lonely, and regards Kin as her sole support. On seeing how close Kin and Cho Kwan are, she becomes jealous, and throws herself onto Kin. Cho Kwan finds it unbearable and leaves. Cho Kwan wants to end this triangular relationship by leaving, as she feels that Lee Wah needs Kin more than she does. At the same time, Lee Wah does not want to become a burden to Kin, and tries to commit suicide, although she is stopped in time by Siu Ling. Kin again finds himself in a dilemma between the two women of his life. Lee Wah tells Kin that she is still fond of him……

Release Date: 1989-06-06On attending Kin’s wedding, Lee Wah feels at a lost, and commits suicide when her family attends the wedding banquet. At the banquet, Kin receives the bad news, and drinks himself unconsciousness, which surprises everybody. Cho Kwan is also saddened after learning the news. Kin is still grievous on his honeymoon, which makes Cho Kwan irritate. Hong is sentenced to prison for kidnapping his son. Kin’s career takes off. He builds Kwan Kin into a diversified conglomerate, and becomes the managing director of the Ngai. He guides the company’s growth, which takes the burden off Ngai Kwai, whose wife dies. On their wedding anniversary, Cho Kwan asks Kin to go with her for maternal check-up. Cho Kwan is disappointed when Kin cannot make it but is surprised when she finds out that he has made arrangements for celebrations. Sai Bond's speculative activities have thrown Kai Mei into disarray. Kai Mei is to face acquisition bids……

Release Date: 1989-06-07A few years has passed. Kin bumps into Hong who finds it hard to make ends meet. Kin pities him, and arranges for him to work in a restaurant. Hong finds himself being gibed at by his colleagues, and decides to work hard to show his truth worth. Having taken care of Siu Ling and son for years and after Chi Man and Sau Man get married, Yat Fu finally summons the courage to propose to Siu Ling. Siu Ling declines as she does not want to be a burden for Yat Fu, but finally agrees with family support. Hong sends Siu Ling a gift on her wedding. Siu Ling invites him to the banquet, which displeases Kin. Hong still hates Kin. He orchestrates an attempted murder of Kin‘s family so that he could take over Kin's assets as his brother. Hong uses Wong, who is mentally unbalanced. Kin and Cho Kwan escape, but not their son. Police investigations reveal that Wong commits the crime in a unbalanced mental state. Kin is not convinced.

Release Date: 1989-06-08Kin discovers an eavesdrop device installed by Hong in his house, and is immediately auspicious of Hong. He arranges for Hong to occupy a senior position within the company in order to test him out and collect evidence. Cho Kwan cannot make out why and having failed to persuade Kin to the contrary, spend 'her time on voluntary orphanage work. In order to develop overseas, Kin arranges Hong to be director of Australia to the surprise of Hong. At the departure ward, Kin arranges for Hong to miss the plane, and forces him to take the next flight, which stopovers at Malaysia. Hong is unsettled. When the plane lands at Malaysia, Hong discovers that he is being surrounded by Man’s uncle and police who is there for him. Hong tries to take Kin hostage, but is finally overpowered. Cho Kwan learns of the trap Kin sets down for Hong, and thinks that Kin indirectly causes the death of her son. Unable to take it, she decides to leave Kin.

Release Date: 1989-06-09Kin looks for Cho Kwan, and finds her. However, Cho Kwan refuses to budge, and decides to divorce Kin and go to Ethiopia to undertake voluntary work. Kin refuses to a divorce, and Cho Kwan decides to leave the matter for ten years. On hearing that Hong is sentenced to death, Kin hurries to Malaysia for the last meeting. Kin is regretful that Hong is going to die through his making. Hong requests for a last meeting with his son and asks Kin to arrange for it. Fearful of what will happen in the next life, Sai Bond finally agrees, especially since Yiu Kwok is dying of cancer. On attending a TV production, Kin recalls how he comes to meet Cho Kwan, and is full of regrets.
