Nearly Dearly Departed
An unbalanced elderly lady, Agnes, suddenly tells Gladys about a murder. The woman's doctor consults a senior psychiatrist, Milestone, who is quite perturbed by the news, although Eavis is disinclined to take Gladys at all seriously. One of Milestone's shady acquaintances, Parks, shoots Gladys's friend Zelda in mistake for Gladys. On police advice a phoney funeral is staged for Gladys, which she insists on directing herself, and even turns up at disguised as her own sister. The supposed death of Gladys distresses Agnes; she makes contact with Trevor, who finally persuades Eavis to listen to her story about the death of Milestone's first wife. At a preposterous memorial service for Gladys, Parks attempts to kill Agnes – at which point Eavis is able to step in and arrest both him and Milestone. Zelda, meanwhile, is enjoying her stay in hospital – especially when Gladys turns up with a supply of booze.
